Ethiopia Washed Yirgacheffe, Harfusa Cooperative

A performer from beginning to end. Sprite soda, cream, and a hint of clove in the nose. Clean, snappy, and refreshing, rich with veins of lime, green tea, and macaroon. A voluptuous, milky body that ends slowly and pronounced.

The Harfusa cooperative has 972 members who are all small producers with an average farm size of less than 1 hectare. This very well-known cooperative has consistently produced classic (and desirable) Yirgacheffe coffees for decades. With the emergence of the Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (ECX), cooperatives like this tend to be more adept to growth, marketing, and exportation. Harfusa has a washing station that contains its own rather large Pinhalense Ecopulper and green separator to properly wash the beans submitted by the local farmers. Since Ethiopian cooperatives cannot legally exporting, they submit it to the ECX, who also provides a transparent link to back to Harfusa, then back to each farm. Flamenco Organic has supported this cooperative for three crop seasons, preferring the natural lime and floral notes that seem to get better each year!
